Description Print. (2 Copies.) Black and white photographic print of a window display at J.L. Hudson Company Department Store. Affixed to the rear wall and adjacent to two American flags is the image of a boat exploding and underneath it a statement reads, "That Extra Bond." A war savings bond is affixed to the image and four twenty-five dollar bonds are attached by strands of ribbon. The sign affixed to the rear wall also reads, "Buy an Extra War Bond and Help Forge Bonds of Steel, Around the Axis. Just 167 years ago this young nation signed its Declaration of Independence. As a people we asserted to the whole wide world that we meat to perpetuate our new, American way of life. Today we are engaged in a great struggle against forces which are entirely at odds with the enlightened views of our Declaration. Today our armed forces are in a position to carry the fight to the aggressor nations. So continue to play your part in this great battle. Remember that every bond you buy forges another link in the bonds of steel that are closing around the foe. And every EXTRA WAR BOND you buy-over and above your regular quota of at least 10% of your ...." A large eagle with an open wing-span is perched atop a sphere and fluted column. Signage affixed to the bottom foreground of the display reads, "Buy U.S. War Savings Bonds, Immediate Delivery, WAR BONDS, 11th Floor, Woodward, Section D." The date and photographic sequence number are printed on the bottom of the recto, "8-16-43; 18865-2x."
