Description One black and white photograph of a 20" steel pipeline crossing of the Niagara River. The view shows men working on the end of the pipe at the water's edge. An earth embankment, workmen, a Merritt-Chapman & Scott Corp. drillboat, and the Niagara River can be seen in the background. One typewritten note on the verso shows "2187-10-4 Pulley block and pontoon combination being attached to bull-plug for first pipeline crossing of the Niagara River. 9/11/54, Photograph for Bechtel Corporation by Richard Finnie." A second typewritten note on the verso shows "Niagara River pipeline crossing at Lewiston, New York, 1954. Rock trench drilled, blasted and excavated across the international boundary and 4,000 l.f. [linear feet] 20" steel pipe pulled across from Canada to U.S."
